Nazomi Communications Sues ARM for Patent Infringement
Company Seeks Enforcement of Patent Rights on Java Acceleration Technology for RISC and CISC Processors
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 2002--Nazomi
Communications, Inc., a pioneer in universal and scalable solutions
for boosting the performance of software running on the Java Platform,
announced today that it has filed a patent infringement suit against
ARM®. The suit alleges that ARM"s acceleration technology and
products for Java platforms are infringing on Nazomi"s United States
patent #6,332,215. Nazomi is seeking a permanent injunction against
ARM precluding further infringement as well as unspecified damages.
Mukesh Patel, president and CEO of Nazomi said, "At Nazomi, we
continue to innovate and offer the industry"s leading portfolio of
high performance, low power universal acceleration solutions for the
Java platform. Nazomi"s intellectual property is the cornerstone of
our business and is one of our most prized assets. Our technologies
and solutions are key to providing ubiquitous computing over wireless
and other networks. We must assure that our investment as well as our
customers" investments in these technologies are protected around the
globe."
Jay Kamdar, COO and vice president of marketing at Nazomi said,
"We have an outstanding track record for delivering pioneering
acceleration solutions that provide wireless handset and Internet
appliance developers with exceptional Java performance in their end
applications. Nazomi remains eager to work with all customers and
technology partners. We have a comprehensive portfolio of technologies
and chip-level products, programs and partnerships in place to rapidly
enable customers to bring their products to market."
The patent infringement suit was filed in the Federal District
Court for Northern California. Nazomi is represented by Cooley
Goodward, a Palo Alto-based intellectual property law firm.
As recognized by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Nazomi"s
breakthrough technology comprises: "A hardware Java accelerator is
provided to implement portions of the Java Virtual machine(TM) in
hardware in order to accelerate the operation of the system on Java
bytecodes. The Java hardware accelerator preferably includes Java
bytecode translation into native CPU instructions. The combination of
the Java hardware accelerator and a CPU provides an embedded solution
which results in an inexpensive system to run Java programs for use in
commercial applications."
